How Many Lumens Does Outdoor Projection Need?
Standard indoor projector — produces near-invisible image outdoors in any ambient light. Use only in fully controlled indoor environments.
Adequate for outdoor after full dark with no perimeter ambient light on a 120" screen at up to 100 ft. The minimum for a quality outdoor image.
Required during dusk, near perimeter lighting, signage, or street light. Aria AV PT-RZ970 at 10K is the correct outdoor specification for any ambient light condition.
Projection is not practical in daylight at any lumen count. For daytime outdoor events, Aria AV outdoor LED monitors and LED video walls are the correct technology.
The outdoor projection timing window
Outdoor projection is practical from approximately 30 minutes after sunset. At full dark, 6,000 lumens produces an excellent image. During dusk (the 45–90 minutes after sunset before full dark), 10,000 lumens is required. Plan your outdoor event start time for projection accordingly — or specify 10,000 lumens to cover the dusk period and remain optimal through full dark.
