Augmented Reality Vs. Virtual Reality

As we begin to move further into 2020, I wanted to take a look at two technologies that are steadily gaining speed.  This concept is augmented and virtual reality.  While the two seem similar by name and design, there are substantial differences between these two technologies.  Augmented reality would be a glasses or mask that goes on but still allows you to see the real world. Alternatively, virtual reality completely encompasses your vision and makes you feel like you are in a different place. Let’s break down some of the most effective and creative uses for these reality products.

Augmented Reality

Let’s start with how augmented reality can become utilized.  First, augmented reality has found its way into business settings at a much quicker pace than virtual reality.  The reasoning is because many applications have become to integrate augmented reality already!

One of the most popular digital games in the past few years has been Pokemon Go.  Within this game, the digital monsters, or Pokemon, can be caught in your surrounding settings.  Utilizing your camera and location, Pokemon Go makes it feel like you are battling and catching Pokemon no matter where you are.

Diving more into the business uses, augmented reality allows for vastly improved models and scales.  Within the image above, you can see a model of a house comes from the model on paper. This model is what the future of implementing virtual reality looks like.  Interactive 3D models and advanced calculations will now be able to be done more naturally than ever. Within the medical industry, this means allowing surgeons a better idea of what sorts of tumors they are working on.  All these capabilities and uses, and augmented reality has only been around for a few years.

Companies are utilizing this technology at conventions to show demonstrations of their graphics and structures without having to bring any actual equipment. With a continually growing market, the future for augmented reality is looking extremely bright — more programs and games designed, expanding augmented reality’s reach in both the consumer and business world.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is an immersive experience.  This experience is going to be the full mask over the face. It covers the user’s eyes, ultimately allowing them to dive deep into the virtual reality experience.

Some great brands that have come out with virtual reality consoles are Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and even Samsung.  Within these three brands, there is a significant divide between the amount of immersion.

Samsung offers an attachment to its phones that turns it into a virtual reality experience.  This experience is on the lower tier of virtual reality. On the other hand, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive have complete setups that are required.  These sets create an environment that the computer views as playable space.  The simulation will now be live.  This simulation will utilize both your headset and controllers. It is now time to start your virtual reality adventure!

The virtual reality consoles encourage third-party developers to create games and apps for their systems.  An online gaming company called Steam allows publishers to launch their content and games that play on consoles around the world.  This is great for creating branding company content in a virtual reality world. Within conferences, there has been a considerable surge of technology companies investing in these virtual worlds.
